Lessons with Benita

Because music is a gift from God to enjoy, each lesson’s main focus is to enjoy music, combined with the hard work necessary to accomplish musical goals. Along with the art of music, Benita teaches patience, good work attitude, and discipline. Her teaching style is engaging, comprehensive, tailored, patient, and student-centric. She wants to develop in each student a deep knowledge of the beauty of music.

Music for “Little Sparrows” - Group Piano Classes

This program is focused on 4 to 12 year old children who will receive - besides learning the piano – a basic musical preparation for further instrumental lessons. Parents will not participate during the classes but encouragement for practice at home is significant for the student’s success. All classes are designed for one school year (2 sessions). Short summer music camp sessions for “Song Sparrows”, “House Sparrows” and “Tree Sparrows” may be offered based on teacher’s availability and demand.

Individual Piano Lessons are also available, depending on availability. Piano teacher recommendations are available as well.

Individual Violin Lessons - 30 minutes

A typical violin lesson focuses on the importance of creative sound quality by solid technical training, ear training, fluency in note reading and teaching different music styles. Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and interests of the student. As an invention of Benita, students enjoy standing on the bellicon during lessons. This helps them to keep a correct AND healthy position while playing - without getting easily tired or stressed. Especially young students enjoy to “jump out their frustration” if it’s sometimes getting difficult to accomplish the lesson’s goal or simply being allowed to jump as a reward for their hard work. Benita teaches students of all levels and ages, from beginner to professional. Violin rental is available.

Ensemble lessons

As small projects on the side, Benita is encouraging current students to play with each other in small groups. Depending on schedule availability, those lessons take place during individual lessons or White Crowned Sparrow groups. Not seldom students start a second instrument besides continuing with piano which gives great flexibility to start new ensemble groups. As long as there is no additional lesson time necessary, there is no cost to those additional projects. Ensemble groups (often created by siblings or with friends) perform at recitals, churches or family events.
